Justice Sheo Kumar Singh appointed as acting chairperson of NGT

The Union government has authorised Justice Sheo Kumar Singh-I, a judicial member of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), to act as the chairperson of the Tribunal till a new chairperson is appointed.

Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, who was appointed as chairperson in July 2018, retired on Thursday.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a notification on Thursday authorising Justice Sheo Kumar Singh-I to act as the chairperson. He was appointed as a judicial member of the NGT in 2020. He was, till recently, a judicial member at the Central Zone Bench in Bhopal.

In an office order issued on Wednesday, the Tribunal had said that the competent authority has directed that Justice Sheo Kumar Singh, judicial member, presently posted at the NGT Central Zone Bench, Bhopal, shall be part of the NGT Principal Bench for hearing matters on July 6.
