A 45-year-old jeweller was robbed and shot at by bike-borne assailants outside his residence in Northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Sunday night. Police have a copy of CCTV footage from cameras installed outside the residence of the jeweller and have obtained photographs of the assailants, who are yet to be identified.

Police said the incident was reported on Sunday night when Surinder Pal Singh, a resident of Dhaka Gaon, was on his way home to take his wife to his nephew’s engagement ceremony. Before shutting shop on Sunday, Singh put some gold jewellery into a bag and left for his residence in his car.

Police said Singh reached his house, parked his car and called the domestic help, asking her to open the door. Before she turned up, the two assailants approached Singh, pointed a gun at him and asked him to hand over the bag which contained jewellery.

When he refused to hand it over, they shot at his hand before fleeing with the bag. Singh told police that the stolen jewellery was worth approximately Rs 12 lakh.
Police said they have obtained two photographs of the assailants from the CCTV cameras installed outside Singh’s house. Singh claimed that he didn’t recognise them, police said.

They said the assailants had probably been following Singh from the time he left his shop.
