A 30-year-old jeweller was shot at allegedly by two men who visited his shop posing as customers in East Delhi’s Farsh Bazar area around 11 am on Sunday.
According to police,two men went to Akhil Gupta’s jewellery shop on Sunday morning. They told him that they had some old bangles that they wanted to exchange for new ornaments.
“The owner of the shop,Akhil,saw the bangles and asked them the year they bought them and for how much. The men then told the jeweller that they had won the ornaments in a bet and they wanted to sell those. The jeweller refused to take the ornaments and asked them to leave,” a senior police officer said.
When the jeweller refused to exchange the ornaments,the accused entered into an argument. One of the two men allegedly whipped out a pistol and threatened to kill him.
One of them opened fire and the other men tried to ransack the store,police said. “One of the accused fired two shots from his pistol,that hit Akhil’s stomach. On hearing the gunshot,another jeweller,Rinku,who has a shop in the area,came to Akhil’s rescue,” the officer said.
Rinku reportedly got a rod from his shop and started assaulting the two accused,who were trying to rob ornaments from the shop.
“Rinku alerted other shopkeepers in the area,who rushed to the jewellery store. The two assailants,left their bike on the spot and fled. They fired two rounds in the air to scare those chasing them. One of the accused then pushed a girl from her two-wheeler and fled on the vehicle,” the police officer said.
The incident has been captured on the CCTV camera installed in the shop. Police have sent teams to catch the accused. A case of attempt to murder and robbery has been registered at Farsh Bazar police station and investigation is on. Akhil’s condition is said to be stable.
