Satbir Pehalwan,INLD leader from Sohna, has been accused of assault by a toll booth attendant in Gurgaon. According to the attendant,Satbir is the man in a CCTV footage of the attendant being slapped. Police said an FIR had been registered, but they were trying to verify the authenticity of the video.

The incident took place on Friday morning, when a convoy of buses and cars, headed to Kurukshetra for a political rally, were stopped at the Badshahpur toll plaza. Dharmendra Jain, manager of the toll plaza firm R K Jain Pvt Ltd,alleged that Satbir drove up in a white Scorpio and said no toll should be collected from those headed to the rally.

“The local INLD president,Satbir Pehalwan, came into the booth and began hitting me. He said,‘Why are you charging us,don’t you know who we are?’ He slapped me. He came with three other men and they threatened other attendants. I have scratch marks on my face and chest,” Jain alleged.

Police said Jain lodged a complaint at the Badshahpur police station and showed them CCTV footage from Friday. A case was registered against “assailants” but police said they were “checking the authenticity of the video”.

SHO (Badshahpur) Ram Chandra said: “He came to us right after the incident. We took him to the Civil Hospital to get his medical examination done. He never told us then that a political leader had hit him.”

DCP (South) Rahul Sharma said: “I have asked the SHO to check the footage and we are investigating the case.”

In a statement, the INLD called it a “political conspiracy” of the ruling Congress. INLD spokesperson R S Dahiya said: “The version is completely false. Our vehicles were on their way to the rally. About 90 per cent of the party vehicles were non-commercial and the private toll attendants were charging a hefty amount. It was then that a party worker called up Neta Satbir and asked him to intervene. Satbir asked them to levy toll on commercial vehicles. But the attendant refused. This is when the matter heated up. Our leader tried to resolve it. He did not hit the attendant.”
