Demanding proof of her chastity,a woman’s hand was burnt in Sultanpuri area last week allegedly by her in-laws who suspected her of having an illicit relationship.
Police registered a complaint on Monday,in which Deepa Solanki alleged that her in-laws and other relatives had placed a hot steel spoon on her hand on November 8 in an attempt to ascertain how “pure” she was.
“My husband Jeevan had gone out for work and my children were at my parent’s home. My in-laws started alleging that I was having an affair and my sister-in-law placed a hot spoon on my palm, saying that if I was ‘pure’,I would not get any blisters,” Deepa told Newsline.
After Deepa started screaming in pain, her shouts were heard by her younger brother who alerted the police.
“As the police arrived,my in-laws and relatives started tearing my clothes and misbehaved with me. We had complained to the police about the matter on November 8 but the case was registered only today,” she said.
Deepa added that ever since her marriage, her in-laws misbehaved with her and had forced the couple out of their Sultanpuri home a few years ago.
