The Haryana government has also been inviting investment for development of places in Haryana as weekend getaways. “Our greatest asset is the proximity to Delhi,” she said. “We want to exploit this to make Haryana a destination for short getaways.”

Choudhary also announced the launch of The Great Gurgaon Shopping Festival,which will begin from September 27 this year and go on till mid-October.

“We hope this will be a bigger event than the Dubai Shopping Festival. It will serve as a precursor to a similar event held at the time of the Commonwealth Games,” she said.

As the Tourism minister of Haryana,Choudhary said she had faced greater hurdles than her counterparts in other states. “Unfortunately,Haryana is not blessed with the natural beauty that draws tourists,unlike other parts in the country.” She also blamed the global meltdown for the lesser-than-expected results. “All that we envisaged has not happened. Haryana,and India,has everything that a tourist can ask for.”
