The councillors will be whizzing around their wards in an attempt to inaugurate as many projects as possible on Thursday.

With State Election Commission expected to announce the municipal polls dates tomorrow, councillors are trying to accomplish as much as possible before the Model Code of Conduct restrains them.

Councillor from Naraina,Malti Verma, will be at 15 inaugurations on Thursday. She said that the events were initially scheduled for next week, before Holi. But with the SEC ready to announce election dates, there is a rush to inaugurate, she said.

“I have to inaugurate park lights and one event is for park naming. There are four lanes that were improved, three drains that have been concretised, six toilet blocks that have been turned into choupals. Now,I will (inaugurate them all) tomorrow morning,” said Verma,a BJP councillor.

BJP councillor from Shalimar Bagh,Harbans Lal Uppal, said he has approval for RMC road in two blocks and the road is almost complete. “I wanted to inaugurate it in the first week of March, but due to the Code of Conduct I will do it tomorrow,” he said.

Deepika Khullar,Congress councillor from Shahdra (South),said she will have to inaugurate two roads next week. “I will do it informally. We will have a small function, without an inauguration,” she said.

Mahendra Nagpal,Chairman of Education Committee, also has a plan. “I have to name and rename a chowk. I will try to do it tomorrow. If not possible,I have laid the foundation stone but formal inauguration is due,” he said.

Harish Awasthi,a BJP councillor, has set a two-hour time limit for inaugurations. “Tomorrow could be hectic for most of us,as we all would be rushing for inauguration of our projects. Now,I will do it tomorrow morning. I will finish every inauguration within two hours,” said Awasthi.

There are many who have planned an informal inauguration. “People know that we have done work in our wards and we cannot rush the inauguration at such a short notice. We will have coconut-breaking ceremony instead of formal inauguration,” said Jagdish Mamgain,Chairman of Works Committee.
