From June, police stations in Noida began competing with each other to prove that they are better than the rest. Under a new gradation system, conceptualised by Noida police, all police stations in Noida will now marked out of 100 for monthly performance.
Under the new plan devised to increase efficiency and accountability, police stations that receive low grades consistently will be liable to punishment postings or suspensions, while those doing well will be handsomely rewarded in professional terms.
Senior police officers said while the system came into being from June 1,it was kept under wraps as it had only been implemented on a trial basis. However, the police stations have increased efficiency remarkably. From June 1 to June 25,the Sector-58 police station was rated the highest, with 87 points, while the Sector-20 police station came in second with 84 points, an officer said.
SSP Preetinder Singh said,The stations are evaluated under the supervision of my office. We look at various aspects such as preventive policing, community policing, reaching out to RWAs under the jurisdiction of the police stations concerned, how personnel behave with the public,as well as their efficiency in solving cases.
Singh said,As the system is in its initial phases, officers in charge of poorly performing police stations will be let off with warnings. However,if they continue to lag behind, personnel will be liable to be transferred, and in extreme cases, face suspension.
Senior officers said emphasis was on solving of cases relating to gangsters. Stations will be graded on the basis of cases that have been cracked under the Gangster Act (Anti Social Activities Prevention Act), Singh said.
