In Lajpat Nagar area of Southeast district,head constable Praveen,deputed with the traffic wing,was beaten up after he stopped Micky Bhatia,who was riding his motorcycle on the wrong side of the road. Bhatia is a resident of the locality. “When Praveen asked for the vehicle’s documents,Bhatia said he did not have any. At this,Praveen told him that his vehicle would be impounded,” said an officer.

Police sources said Bhatia started threatening Praveen. The heated argument soon took the shape of a scuffle and Bhatia allegedly attacked Praveen and even tore his uniform.

As Praveen hit Bhatia back,a passer-by informed the police.

The Lajpat Nagar police arrested Bhatia and booked him under relevant Sections for stopping a government official from doing his duty. “It is a non-bailable offence,” said an officer.

In the second incident,two policemen were assaulted after they tried to stop loud music being played after permissible hours at a wedding reception in the Mangolpuri area of Northeast Delhi on Saturday night.

According to the police,the injured are Head Constable Suresh and Constable Balbir Singh,who are posted at the Mangolpuri police station. While Suresh broke two of his teeth in the attack,Balbir sustained injuries on his legs and in the stomach.

They are undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The police have arrested five people in connection with the incident.

The police said the officers had gone to the wedding venue around 11 pm after they received a complaint about loud music and disturbance in the O-block area. When they tried to shut down the music system,a few inebriated men refused to comply and attacked the two officers. The police had initially picked up 14 people,but nine were let go after questioning. “We have arrested three men and two women. The women are the groom’s mother and aunt who caused most of the trouble,” said a senior police officer.
