In Delhi HC, plea seeks action against pubs, bars & clubs in Safdarjung Enclave: ‘Source of nuisance’
The petitioner has claimed that these pubs operating in a residential area have become a “source of nuisance” not only for the residents of the neighbouring area but also for the people such as him who visit the nearby public places.
“The people being hosted leave the clubs/pubs/bars in a severely drunken state and become a source of nuisance for the local residents. The same people go on to drive their vehicles in an inebriated state causing threat of accidents for the local residents, especially children...,” the plea claims.
The Delhi High Court Wednesday sought responses from the Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and city police in a plea seeking appropriate action against clubs, bars and pubs stated to be operating in the residential area of Humayunpur village, Safdarjung Enclave.
A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad issued notice to the Delhi government’s Department of Excise, Entertainment, and Luxury Tax, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Police on the plea and asked the petitioner to also make the clubs concerned a party to the proceedings.
The petitioner has claimed that these pubs operating in a residential area have become a “source of nuisance” not only for the residents of the neighbouring area but also for the people such as him who visit the nearby public places.
The plea states that the said clubs/pubs/bars host a number of people on a daily basis and this strength accentuates on the weekends.
“The people being hosted leave the clubs/pubs/bars in a severely drunken state and become a source of nuisance for the local residents. The same people go on to drive their vehicles in an inebriated state causing threat of accidents for the local residents, especially children…,” the plea claims.
The plea further states that the locals have often allegedly witnessed public nuisance in the form of fights between people in an intoxicated state while coming out of the clubs/bars. It also claims that these places play loud music which further causes difficulty for local residents.
