Section 144 imposed in parts of Burdwan over political tension
Kolkata: Police have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Raina and Khandaghosh area in Burdwan district citing political tension ahead of the CPMs local committee meetings for the preparation for the party congress. Humayun Kabir,SP of Burdwan,said political tension in the area is the reason for imposing restrictions in the area. However,Amol Haldar,district secretary of CPM in Burdwan district said Trinamool and police have jointly conspired for not allowing Left Front to hold its meetings. Police had also stopped the party district CPM committee from holdings its meeting at Raina three days ago.
CM replied to 1 out of 40 CPM letters,says Surya Kanta
Kolkata: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra has claimed that the CPM has written 40 letters to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,but she has not replied to anyone barring one. In contrast,he said,the Left Front has attended all meetings convened by the chief minister. Most of these letters related to political violence and the alleged persecution of the Left cadres by Trinamool Congress supporters in the rural belts. It is lawlessness, Mishra said.
BJP wants Rajarhat renamed after Shyamaprasad
Kolkata: The BJP has thanked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the move to change the name of Jyoti Basunagar at Rajarhat and suggested that it be renamed Shyamaprasad Mukherjeenagar as a fitting tribute to the patriot. Stating that no township should be named after Jyoti Basu who pushed back progress of West Bengal during his tenure as chief minister,BJP state president Rahul Sinha said I must thank Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for saving the dignity of the residents of the township. Sinha said that it was in the fitness of things that the township be renamed after Mukherjee whose efforts provided shelter to innumerable refugees from erstwhile East Pakistan in Bengal after countrys partition.
