Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday asked Delhi Police to “improve its intelligence gathering to prevent incidents of communal violence by fringe elements”.
In a meeting attended by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi, principal secretary (home), special and joint commissioners of various Delhi Police branches, Jung reviewed the law and order situation in the city over the last fortnight. While he lauded police’s efforts in containing the recent communal flare-ups, he also asked police to be “extra-vigilant”.
Police appraised the L-G about the steps taken to prevent such incidents, including activating ‘aman committees’ and ‘district level hearing of public grievances’.
Bassi also assured the L-G that the India International Trade Fair 2014 will have CCTV surveillance apart from additional personnel to ensure safety and crowd management. Preparations were also being made to handle the large congregation during the upcoming Annual Nirankari Sangam, the L-G was told.
The L-G also reviewed Delhi Traffic Police’s mobile app, police clearance certificate application and loss report application.
