IIT Delhi student dies by suicide on campus, no suicide note recovered

Investigators are examining his mobile phone and obtaining records from the institute to establish the circumstances preceding his death, police said.

A crime team and a forensic science laboratory unit were called to collect evidence.
During the investigation, police allegedly found no apparent injury marks on the deceased other than those attributable to the fall.

No suicide note has also been recovered so far, said police

Officers said that a mobile phone was found in the pocket of the deceased.

The device would be examined, the officer said.

Police said they are obtaining the student’s counselling records and other relevant information from the institute.

“The team is verifying available facts and examining the circumstances surrounding the student’s movements before the incident,” the officer said.

IIT Delhi condoled the death in a statement: “The Institute deeply mourns the tragic and untimely demise of an M.Sc. student on August 22, 2026. The Delhi Police are investigating the sad incident. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. The Institute is providing all support to them.”

This was the second alleged suicide at the institute this year.

Earlier, a 19-year-old BTech student was found dead inside his apartment on the campus in March.
