With most exit polls predicting victory for the AAP, the party on Saturday said one should wait for the final results on February 10. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal hoped “the final results are as per the exit polls”.
“My gratitud 2 Delhiites for their support. U r so amazing. U rejcted politics of caste n religion. Hope final results r as per exit polls,” Kejriwal tweeted.
In another tweet, he said, “My sincere thnks n congratulations to all selfless volunteers of AAP, who worked round the clock for their country. AAP is bcoz of u.”
Earlier in the day, in East Patel Nagar, a makeshift war room was set up from where Kejriwal and senior leader Kumar Vishwas monitored booth management as votes were being cast. For two hours, the two leaders also tackled complaints of “faulty” Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and rival political parties trying to buy votes by distributing liquor and cash.
On Saturday evening, as voting drew to a close and results of exit polls started trickling in, senior leaders and volunteers flocked to the AAP offices in North Avenue and Patel Nagar.
As Kejriwal retired to his residence, senior leaders Yogendra Yadav, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Ashish Khetan, among others, interacted with volunteers, watching and reacting to reports of exit poll results. “All the exit polls are showing the same results. We are still claiming that AAP is getting more than 50 seats. Wait for the results,” AAP spokesperson Atishi Marlena said.
