As the mad scramble for admissions to the four-year degree programme began, many students headed East. Giving the North and South campuses a miss because of the high cut-offs,these students made a beeline to colleges in East Delhi to study subjects of their choice.
This college has good infrastructure, great faculty and excellent placements. Besides,Im easily getting admission here, Amit Singh, who scored 93 per cent and wants to pursue B Com Honours from Maharaja Agrasen College in Vasundhara Enclave, said.
Hansraj College and Hindu College were Singhs first choice but the score required for BCom (H) in these colleges, made him skip North campus completely.
The choice of subjects has also been an important factor for admissions. I want to study BTech in Food Technology and Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women is the best college in the city for the course, Avi,a student of Hillwoods Academy,Preet Vihar, said.
A lot of students are in fact, making a decision not on the basis of colleges but on the courses and placement prospects. Like Sanjoli Shrivastava, who secured a 94.6 per cent and wants to pursue BTech from Sukhdev College because of the colleges record in placements over past few years.
State-of-the-art infrastructure at these colleges has also caught the fancy of students. While Agrasen has virtual classrooms and learning resource centres,Shaheed Rajguru College boasts of nine specialised food laboratories.
Last year too, there was a rush, but only after the second list. We are expecting a similar response this year, Dr S Lakshmi Devi, principal of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, said.
