The body of a 20-year-old youth,a resident of Nathupur in DLF Phase III,was recovered from near a railway track in Sector 9A in the city on Sunday morning.
The body has been identified as that of Sandeep Lohia,a first year student of Junior Basic Training at an institute in Gurgaon,police said. Local residents who came across the body informed police,who rushed to the spot and recovered it. The head,police said,could not be found anywhere.
According to police,a suicide note has been recovered from near the body. Police said in the note,Sandeep had written that he was taking the step in all consciousness and also blamed the principal of his college for making him take the extreme decision.
“In the note,Sandeep said the principal had insulted him after which he had gone into depression and which is why he took his life. He also wrote that he did not have an affair with anyone,” a police officer said.
According to those close to Sandeep’s family,Sandeep had left home for college,as usual,around 7.30 am on Saturday. Around 3.30 pm,he called his elder brother and told him that he was going to Palwal district with his friends and will come back on Sunday morning,they said.
“At 6.30 pm,Sandeep again called his brother and told him that he wished to talk to his mom. His brother said Sandeep was sounding depressed then. When Sandeep insisted,his brother told him that his mother was with his father and asked Sandeep to call on his father’s cellphone,” one of Sandeep’s relatives said.
However,he did not do so and on Sunday morning,the police informed the family about his death. The address and phone number of the youth were written in the suicide note,police said.
Gaurav,a friend of the family told Newsline: “We have also heard that Sandeep was having an affair with a girl for the last six years. We don’t know if it is a case of honour killing. Only investigations will bring the truth out.”
His family members said that although the Government Railway Police (GRP) is terming it a suicide,they did not believe Sandeep took his life. “How can one commit suicide like this? And even if we do consider the fact that he might have killed himself,the head has to be somewhere in the area,” one of the relatives said.
“We searched the area but could not find the head. We believe it might have been dragged away by some animals. The role of the principal will be looked into and statements are being recorded,” said Investigating officer Jaiveer Singh said.
When asked about the honour-killing angle,he said there was nothing to suggest this angle so far. “As of now,it is a case of suicide,” he said.
