The headless body of a 26-year-old man, allegedly kidnapped from Delhi last month, was found from a village in Haryana’s Rewari district on Sunday. The deceased,Srikant Singh,is the son of a National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) official, police said.
“Singh was missing from July 29. He was last seen in Greater Noida. While a case of kidnapping was registered in South Campus police station,a case of murder has been registered with Kasola police in Haryana,” said Chhaya Sharma,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
Police suspect a friend of the victim Sanjay Bhattacharya to be behind the murder as he too went missing since the time Singh disappeared and phone records of the victim showed that the suspect had agreed to meet him on July 29.
Singh worked as a health officer with a private health insurance firm in Saket and lived with his parents and wife at his South Moti Bagh residence in South Delhi.
“Police are looking for Bhattacharya. The victim’s family said Bhattacharya had telephoned Srikant on the afternoon of July 29,” the official said.
Srikant’s family claim he had left home at around 1 pm in his Hyundai car saying he was going to meet Bhattacharya.
“Around 4.45 pm,I phoned my son and he told me that he was going to Greater Noida with Bhattacharya,” said Singh, who works as a clerk with the SC/ST commission.
