With BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan busy with coordinating the campaign for Delhi, local BJP leaders and his wife Nutan Goel have taken up the mantle in his constituency,Krishna Nagar.

On the last day of campaigning,as the BJP’s CM candidate went for a roadshow across his constituency with star campaigner Navjot Singh Sidhu, his wife toured a different area with Art of Living guru Maheish Girri.

Starting the day at 7 am,the couple visited several parts of the constituency.

While Sidhu and other local leaders wooed the Punjabi voters in the area,singer-actor Manoj Tiwari urged the Purvanchalis to vote for the BJP.

BJP secretary Sudha Malaiya spoke to the women in the audience, asking all to ensure that everyone came out to vote. “I have not seen such a desire to throw out the Congress since 1977,” Malaiya said.

“We have to get the constituency in the Guinness Book of World Records for voter turnout,” Harsh Vardhan said in his speech. The CM hopeful, however, left the rally after his speech to attend a press conference at the BJP headquarters, while the other leaders spoke to the crowd.

Nutan then began the gruelling task of travelling to various parts of the constituency to attend local programmes put together by the supporters on the last day of campaigning.

Spending 15-20 minutes at each event,Nutan, accompanied by Malaiya, went from a sabzi mandi to a residential area and then to a gurdwara in the last hour of campaigning, thanking local party workers for the work done by them. En route, she fielded calls from workers from other areas.

“Doctor Sahab could not come today but I am here and I have seen the affection and support you have given my husband. You have given us the message,‘You take care of Delhi,we will take care of the constituency,’” said Nutan, exhorting workers at each venue.

Expressing regret on behalf of Harsh Vardhan for missing the last day of meetings, his wife also emphasised the role of the party workers “I am a housewife and have only been out campaigning for these 20-25 days, and I have received tremendous love and support from the people,” she said in her speeches.

“I had never really taken this kind of a role in campaigning earlier, but this time unhein Dilli dekhna hai,to yahan humein dekhna hi hai… I have to put in an appearance if he cannot,” she told Newsline.

The routine has remained the same for the last several days, she said. “I have gone to gurdwaras, houses, masjids, jagratas, meetings everywhere that I am invited to,because he cannot attend everything like he did in the previous campaigns,” Nutan said.
