Gurgaon residents woke up to a rather special Sunday morning. Raahgiri devoted a day to persons with disabilities and the first edition of ‘Inclusive Raahgiri Day’ was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

With an aim to spread awareness over the need to include people with disabilities, the ‘Inclusive Raahgiri Day’ also sensitised citizens towards people with disabilities and emphasised that they too have talent and passion that should be embraced, an official said.

“Such programmes help in confidence building of the differently-abled persons. Raahgiri programme is a motivational one and such programmes should also be organised in other cities of the state. Physically challenged persons constitute about two per cent of the population of the country and, for bringing them into the mainstream of society, their social, intellectual, physical and skill development is necessary. This will make them fit for employment. The government and NGOs will make efforts towards this,” Khattar said.

He walked through the 4.5 km distance of raahgiri and took part in various activities performed by the physically challenged people at different locations on the entire stretch.
