One of the accused arrested for the murder of a 35-year-old gym owner in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash-I was allegedly giving daily updates to jailed gangster Hashim Baba using two apps that offer end-to-end encryption, the police have found after scanning his mobile phone during the investigation.
Baba is currently lodged in Northeast Delhi’s Mandoli Jail.
The victim, Afghan native Nadir Shah, was shot dead outside his gymon the night of September 12. While seven accused — Akash Yadav, Nitalesh Tiwari, Vishal Verma, Naveen Baliyan, Mohammed Sajid, Pankaj Kumar and Sachin Yadav — have so far been arrested in the case, the shooters, identified as Madhur Motta and Raju, are still absconding.
The police have found that barring Sajid, other accused had deleted all records from their mobile phones. “After examining Sajid’s phone, police found that he was making Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), or Internet calls, to a number, that he claimed was being used by Hashim, with the help of two apps. His phone records from the past week show that he was making around 8-10 calls to Hashim every day and giving all updates to him,” a source said.
Meanwhile, police have found the absconding shooters were near the New Seelampur area. “They switched on their cell phones around 11.47 pm. They were last seen with Sajid,” the source said.
The New Delhi Range of Special Cell has also found CCTV footage showing Baliyan and Motta visiting a car showroom in the Nizamuddin area two days before Shah’s murder. The duo allegedly told the showroom manager that they wanted to buy an SUV in a day but cancelled the plan after the manager said it would take two-three days.
“Police have also found in their investigation that during their stay at a rented accommodation in Jamia Nagar for the past three to four weeks, they allegedly conducted a recce of the victim and a leading nightclub owner, who is a close associate of Shah’s businessman friend who moved to Dubai. Police have found the CCTV footage, confirming their presence outside a leading hotel where the nightclub is situated and in a car showroom,” the source said, adding that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had demanded Rs 2 crore around nine months ago from the owner of the nightclub.

According to another source, Shah was summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) a few months ago for questioning in connection with his alleged involvement with South Delhi-based gangsters, Ravi Gangwal and Rohit Chaudhary, who are associated with jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana.
