The Sector 10 police registered a case and questioned Suman, who eventually admitted to the crime, the police said.
A daily wage labourer was arrested for allegedly beating his six-year-old son to death in Shakti Nagar after the child refused to fetch him water, the Gurgaon police said Sunday.
The accused, Suman Kumar Singh, 35, who is originally from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, was arrested on Friday and sent to judicial custody the following day.
According to the police, on Tuesday, a local hospital alerted the Sector 10 police station about a minor, Satyam, who was admitted there with severe injuries.
The boy was referred to the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak where the doctors declared him dead. The postmortem report stated that death was due to multiple head injuries.
On Wednesday, Satyam’s mother, who works at a private company, lodged a complaint stating that it was her husband’s contractor who informed her about the boy’s injuries.
On reaching their rented house in Shakti Nagar, she found Satyam unconscious with visible wounds and rushed him to the hospital.
The Sector 10 police registered a case and questioned Suman, who eventually admitted to the crime, the police said. A spokesperson for the city police stated that Suman returned home in an inebriated condition on Tuesday and asked Satyam for water. “When the child refused, an enraged Suman slapped him. The situation escalated when Satyam threatened to inform his mother, prompting Suman to beat him brutally. The boy hit a wall multiple times during the assault, sustaining fatal head injuries.”
Last year, the Gurgaon police had arrested a 28-year-old homemaker in connection with the murder of her eight-year-old son in Sarhaul.
“Poonam claimed she heard her son’s water bottle fall and found him unconscious… She changed her statement many times… Later, she said he drank water and fell unconscious,” Naveen Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Udyog Vihar, had told The Indian Express at the time.
“Next morning, she claimed…she killed her son…initially, she said she got angry on seeing paint on his school uniform. Later, she said he had lost his book…The mother had changed the child’s clothes and washed his trousers.”
