The Gautam Buddha Nagar police Sunday arrested one more person in connection with a lift collapse case at an under-construction site in Greater Noida West, where eight workers were killed.

According to the police, they arrested Lavjeet Kumar, 38, General Manager, Girdhari Lal Construction Company, from his residence in Samridhi Grand Avenue Society in the Bisrakh Police Station area.

The company was involved in the construction of the Dream Valley project in Tech Zone-4 of Greater Noida West, where the accident occurred on Friday.

Officials said Kumar was the signing authority on behalf of the company and he was responsible for the management and security standards of the C-11 and C-12 towers of the project.

“They continued to operate the lift despite the rain. This was deliberate negligence on their part, due to which a tragic incident took place,” said an official.

Another official said the lift has to be inspected by a third-party technical team from time to time, but this was not done. Apart from this, the safety device of the lift was also found faulty because of which it came crashing down from the 14th floor.

On Saturday, the police arrested Devendra Sharma, another general manager of the company.
