The Delhi government will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre on April 10 to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the national capital, Health Minister Pankaj Singh said Tuesday.
The newly-formed BJP government plans to enrol at least one lakh beneficiaries in the health insurance scheme within 30 days as part of its 100-day agenda. Ayushman Bharat aims to provide yearly health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family.
The scheme’s implementation was a major promise of the BJP leading up to the Delhi Assembly elections in February. The previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had created its own scheme after refusing to adopt the AB-PMJAY.
Singh, in a press conference, said beneficiaries will be selected based on the National Food Security Act data and the Socio Economic and Caste Census of 2011. Additionally, senior citizens aged 70 and above will also be included, he said.
Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme estimates, around 6,54,000 of the poorest families in Delhi will receive health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh. Additionally, approximately 4,50,000 families with members over 70—some of whom may already qualify for coverage based on their economic status—will also benefit from this initiative, as per estimates.
The minister also announced the launch of six mobile dental vans on March 20, starting from Maulana Azad Medical College.
According to Dr Gyanendra Kumar, professor in the department of pediatric dentistry at Maulana Azad Medical College, these mobile dental vans will be taken to six areas, including Kanti Nagar in North East Delhi, Vikaspuri in West Delhi, Najafgarh in Southwest Delhi.
“Each mobile clinic will have a dental chair, an x-ray machine, a sterilisation kit, and a compressor. The van will be air-conditioned, and a TV will be installed,” said Dr Kumar.
He added that each dental van will have four dentists, paramedical staff, a dental assistant, and a nursing officer.
