Coming to the aid of senior citizens and the physically challenged at railway stations in Delhi, the Northern Railway has decided to deploy electric golf carts to ferry commuters on station premises.

At present, the New Delhi railway station has three such carts and two more will be deployed there. The Old Delhi railway station, which has one cart, will get two more. Two carts each will be hired for Anand Vihar,Nizamuddin and Sarai Rohilla stations.

Officials said the golf carts will be parked at the end of the platform, close to the ramps. The carts will be available by the end of month.

“It has been observed that the elderly and the differently abled find it difficult to walk on the platforms. To minimise their inconvenience, electric six-seater carts will be deployed exclusively for them,” a senior Railway official said.
