Mayor Kanwar Sain lashed out against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday for making statements against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and proposing that the civic body be brought under the control of the Delhi government.

With the government criticising the BJP-led MCD,Sain pointed out the various departments and bodies under the aegis of the government of the NCT that have not been functioning properly.

“The Delhi Jal Board,in particular, has been unable to resolve issues,be it water supply or the maintenance of sewers, over the last decade,” Sain said.

“Residents are suffering at the hands of insensitive and inefficient officials at DJB and the chief minister has not been able to take any concrete steps or draw up any concrete action plan for improving the functioning of the body,” he said.

Sain proposed that the government should hand the DJB back to the MCD. “We will be able to draw a concrete plan and ensure all the problems related to water and sewage will be solved in no time. Since most essential services are being maintained and controlled by the MCD,it will be easier for us to coordinate the work of the DJB and ensure output if it is under the direct control of the MCD,” he said.
