The woman, who is currently recuperating at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Dilshad Garden, said the accused were residents of her colony but she had never spoken to any of them.

Recounting the incident, she said, “I was returning home on Tuesday night when a group of men, who live in my colony, started passing lewd comments. When I objected, they became more aggressive. They asked me if I was planning to go home or to a police station.”

The woman claimed that though she raised an alarm, no one came forward to help her.

“I rushed to a nearby shop. Since I live in the same locality and I frequent the shop, I thought that the owner will provide shelter. When I told him that I was being harassed by these men, he asked me to get out and started shutting down the place,” she said.

“ By then, two of the men had reached the spot. They were on motorcycles; one of them opened fire. The bullet hit me above my leg. I was carrying a bag and the bullet hit the metallic portion of the bag,” she said.

According to her, none of the passers-by stepped forward to help her even after she was shot.

“The area was crowded because it was a Tuesday and the weekly market is held on that day. Several people witnessed the shooting but no one came forward to help me. I started walking towards my house in that condition. I made a call to the police, but they reached the spot much later, after I had collapsed,” she said.

A police official, investigating the case, said, “Our probe has revealed that the woman and the accused knew each other. More details will be disclosed once the investigation is complete”.
