Urban civic elections will be held in Ghaziabad district on Wednesday, during the fourth phase of municipal polls in Uttar Pradesh. District officials said polling will take place between 7 am and 6 pm and results will be declared on July 7.
Officials said the district has 222 wards,453 polling centres and 1,941 polling stations. The city of Ghaziabad has 80 wards,249 polling centres and 1,114 polling stations. while the district has a total of 17.78 lakh registered voters, the city has around 11.77 lakh voters. The sitting Mayor of Ghaziabad is Damayanti Goel, from Bharatiya Janata Party.
Residents of Ghaziabad said frequent power cuts was a major issue, which will decide the fate of these elections. Rajeev Arora,a resident of Vaishali said,In this searing heat, power is the major problem. There are power cuts for close to 12 hours a day. Many times, the reasons for power cuts are transformer bursts due to the heat. The administration reacts slowly in such cases, which needs to be resolved. Water supply also is worrying, and something needs to be done about that too.
For Sandeep Sharma, who lives in Indirapuram, the deteriorating law and order situation is a poll issue. Law and order is in very bad shape in Ghaziabad. There are murders and snatchings nearly everyday. Moreover, accidents occur because of things like uncovered manholes. I will vote on the basis of these issues.
