Track laying has begun in the underground section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, also called RAPIDX.

According to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), track slabs are being laid on both the up and down platforms of the Anand Vihar station and the work will proceed towards the New Ashok Nagar station afterwards.

Out of the 5 km between Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar, 2 km of tracks have been laid so far on the elevated section between the two stations, and 2 km of tracks have been laid between New Ashok Nagar stations and the underground tunnel ramp of Khichripur.

The viaduct between New Ashok Nagar and Khichripur has been completed and is awaiting the completion of construction of the ramp connecting the Khichripur underground tunnel to the elevated section of the Metro. The ramp’s construction is in the final stage, said NCRTC officials.

In a statement, the NCRTC also said the Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar stations reached their next phase, with platforms and concourse levels being at an advanced stage of construction. Officials said that a 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad is also ready for operation and will open as soon as RAPIDX services commence.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is 82 km long and will connect Meerut to Delhi in less than an hour, with trains running at a maximum speed of 180 kmph. The RRTS will connect with three pre-existing Delhi Metro lines at Sarai Kale Khan (Pink Line), Anand Vihar (Pink and Blue Lines), New Ashok Nagar (Blue Line) and Ghaziabad (Red Line).

Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Sarai Kale Khan and Shaheed Sthal stations have been planned to be multimodal transport hubs providing seamless connectivity to the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways and bus terminals. The project is set to finish by March 2025.
