Three women were killed while a man was critically injured after they were hit by a car in Ghaziabad on Saturday morning, police said. The incident took place around 5.45 am on Rakesh Marg, GT Road, under the Sihani Gate police station limits. According to police, the four-wheeler, allegedly driven recklessly, rammed into four pedestrians out for a morning walk. Station House Officer, Sihani Gate, Sachin Kumar told The Indian Express that all of them were out for a walk. “At a T-point on the road, the vehicle, which was coming from the other side, hit them. Three women died,” the SHO said. Kumar said that the deceased have been identified as Kamlesh, 55; Meenu Prajapati, 56; and Savitri Devi, 60 — all residents of New Kotagaon. The injured man, Vipin Sharma, 48, is a resident of Shyam Vihar Colony. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nandgram, Upasna Pandey said doctors declared Meenu and Savitri dead on arrival at the district hospital while Kamlesh succumbed to injuries during treatment. Vipin is undergoing medical care and remains in a critical condition at a private hospital. According to the officer, a police response team (PRV) reached the spot immediately after receiving information of the accident from local residents. However, the driver managed to flee the scene, abandoning the car, which had been seized by police. Pandey said legal proceedings to trace the driver are underway. “We have received a written complaint from the family members. A case has been registered under appropriate sections. The driver is absconding but will be arrested soon. The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem, and further legal action is being taken,” she said. A 37-second CCTV footage of the incident shows the three women, dressed in salwar kameez, crossing the road along with a man. As they wait at the median to cross to the other side, a white speeding car rams into them before hitting the median.
