A suspected gangster, wanted for allegedly opening fire on Delhi Police personnel in Haryana, was arrested on Tuesday.
Deepak alias Deepa (24) — a key member of the Neeraj Bawana gang — was arrested following a tip-off from Bawana-Kanjhawala road near Chor Piau area around 6.30 pm. A police team had laid a trap and intercepted his Innova car, a police officer said.
“We had received information on Monday regarding the movement of a close aide of Bawana,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
Deepak was involved in two other incidents for which he was wanted by the police.
The Bawana gang had hatched a plan to eliminate a member of their rival gang — Nitu Dabodia gang. They wanted to eliminate Pradeep to establish their supremacy in the outskirts of Delhi, a police officer said.
“Their plan was enter the court complex by wearing advocates’ attire and then shoot Pradeep. However, the attempt was foiled by the Special Cell officers,” Yadav said.
Police were on the lookout for Deepak as his name had emerged as one of the key conspirators during investigation. “Deepak had gone into hiding after the incident to evade arrest. On September 19, he was intercepted by police while he was passing through Karnal. However, he fired on the police team and managed to escape,” Yadav said.
