A cafe dedicated to yoghurt comes up in Defence Colony market

Regulars at Defence Colony market will remember Regency Bakery that rolled out chocolate truffles and fruit cakes. The venue is now home to a new eatery dressed in tones of pink and fuchsia. Called Cocoberry,it opened a week ago and offers delicious cold desserts and a variety of smoothies and shakes.

Cocoberry is a lot more than another cool eatery in the bustling food map of this market. It comes with a special tag — of making fantastic,low-cal desserts from yoghurt. Anything you order here, apart from the hot and cold coffees,is made with a tangy yoghurt base. “We are sourcing probiotic yoghurt from a supplier in Delhi and are blending it with toned milk and fresh fruit pulp,” says Sumit Suneja,Cocoberry’s retail head.

For now,the menu gives a dozen options for frozen yoghurts (Rs 45 for a small scoop and Rs 195 for a fruit-laden large cup) that are dispensed from ice-cream vending machines and topped with a variety of fresh toppings and syrups from the display counter. You can choose between a tangy strawberry flavour and a more subtle green tea that fetches a pale green blob laden with slivers of walnuts. Mocha flavoured yoghurt blends well with mini Oreo and chocolate syrup and there’s an option of plain frozen yogurt which is best enjoyed with a generous dose of chopped strawberry, kiwi and dragon fruit.

“In the West, yoghurt parlours are quite popular and we have received encouraging feedback. We plan to open outlets in Gurgaon and Hyderabad, too,” he says.

Also,Cocoberry lists a selection of coffees and teas (Rs 40 onwards). Yogurt based smoothies are a tad expensive (Rs 115 for a glass) and are whipped with a choice of fruits. The lemon ice tea (Rs 60) has a slush-like texture while a steaming cup of Swiss diet chocolate (Rs 70) is a delicious guilt-free offering.

The promoters of this eatery,Suneja adds, also run a BPO and

Cocoberry is their first food venture. If the slowdown in the economy is their reason for branching out into food,we’re not complaining.
