A former personal secretary,who had worked in the Ministry of Communication and IT,has been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly cheating people by posing as an advocate.
The arrested person has been identified as Jagbir Singh,a resident of Kausik Enclave,B-Block,in Burari area of North Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma said Singh was arrested near the office of Deputy Commissioner (South),in Saket on January 4.
Singh has reportedly admitted to his involvement in forging documents. Verification of the documents revealed that Singh was facilitating a recently married couple in getting their marriage certificate from the office of Deputy Commissioner (South), said Sharma.
Police have recovered around 20 forged rubber stamps,pertaining to various government officials in high positions,and forged official documents from his possession. Two forged handicap certificates,which were supposed to be used for procuring railway concessions,a forged identity card of the Bar Council of Delhi,and around 20 counterfeit rubber stamps were also recovered from his house-cum-office in Burari.
In these certificates,Singh had allegedly claimed that he was handicapped,even though he was physically fit. The Bar Council card was allegedly forged,and after verification,it was ascertained that it was originally issued in the name of another practising advocate at the Dwarka court.
The accused further disclosed that he used to introduce himself as an advocate,and always carry the forged Bar Council card to gain his peoples confidence.
Police said Singh held a Masters degree in Economics,English and LLB. A former private secretary in the Ministry of Communication and IT,he had been arrested by Lodhi Colony police and convicted for similar offences in the past. After his conviction in the case,he was made to take compulsory retirement in 2009, said Sharma.
