A day after the civic staff of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation found not even chairs to sit on,the corporation procured around 350 chairs on rent from a local tent house. On Thursday evening,Municipal Commissioner Sajjan Singh Yadav and Deputy Commissioner C A Dhan had conducted an inspection and the chairs were found to be insufficient in number.

“For the convenience of the staff, furniture like tables and chairs have been procured from a near by tent house. But this is only a temporary arrangements,” said a senior civic official.

However, the staff said the chairs were a misfit at the municipal office. “The chairs that have brought to the office today are made of iron and are green in colour. It seems as if they have been picked up straight from a marriage ceremony. As a result the workplace looks like a banquet hall,” said a municipal official.

Meanwhile,CA Dhan said the priority was to make the office functional. “We have conveyed the need for proper chairs to suit the office requirement. The staff have started reporting to work at the civic office and so these chairs were procured in an emergency. Once the furniture for the corporation comes in, we will replace them,” said Dhan.

A civic official said 100 more chairs will be hired from the tent house. “The chairs were found inadequate after being allotted to every department. To meet the requirement around 100 more chairs will be hired from the tent house,” said the official.
