Delhi government is planning a two-day grand Diwali celebration in the Capital on Saturday and Sunday, during which the Kartavya Path will be lit with two lakh diyas (earthen lamps) and drones shows will be held, said officials.
“This will be a two-day celebration. The government’s plan is to illuminate the city with diyas and lights this Diwali … There are also plans of telling the story of Diwali — why it is celebrated, the story of Lord Ram from his exile to his return to Ayodhya and the significance of the festival — through a drone and laser show…,” said an official.

Apart from this, the government will decorate all the major roundabouts at Signature Bridge, ITO chowk and other areas with fairy lights and lamps.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and all the ministers are likely to be a part of the celebrations on Saturday.
“Preparations for the drone-laser show are complete, administrative and security clearances are pending. The approval process for the use of drones is underway,” said the official.
According to officials, the celebrations will be in line with the festivities at Ayodhya. Over the past eight years, Deepotsav in Ayodhya has evolved into a globally recognised spectacle, setting world records for lighting lakhs of diyas along the banks of the Saryu River and at prominent temples in the city.
The Delhi government has also issued special orders to all departments to ensure that the Capital remains clean, safe, and radiant during Diwali.
Detailed guidelines have been provided to all departmental heads and municipal authorities so that citizens can enjoy smooth traffic, a clean environment, and a festive atmosphere.
Delhi Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma instructed officials that all arrangements be made properly. He has directed all local bodies, the Electricity Department, and the Public Works Department to ensure that streetlights are fully functional on roads, at markets, colonies, religious sites, and public areas so that the entire city is well-lit during the festival.
