A week after two minor siblings were kidnapped and murdered by their own uncle allegedly for ransom, the body of a five-year-old boy was recovered from a pit in Northwest Delhi. The boy had been missing for the past three days.

The victim has been identified as Rohan. He studied in kindergarten at a local government school and his parents had filed a complaint that he was missing from his residence in Kushak village near Swarup Nagar since Thursday evening.

According to police,Rohan went missing on March 7 and a case was registered in this regard in Swarup Nagar police station. “The family received no ransom calls. So,we are investigating all possible reasons that may have led to his abduction and killing,” DCP (Northwest) P Karunakaran said.

Rohan’s body was found half buried in a freshly-dug pit. A villager passing by noticed a dark figure moving suspiciously in the field around 3 am. He immediately raised alarm and rushed to the spot with other residents. Meanwhile, the accused managed to flee.

“After Rohan’s body was recovered, locals alerted the police. An initial medical examination revealed that he died of a fatal injury that crushed his skull,” a senior officer investigating the case said.

Rohan’s father,Chandrabhan, works as as a security guard at a factory which manufactures water purifiers. Police are now investigating whether the father had any personal enmity with someone in the village and whether that had anything to do with Rohan’s murder.

“The victim’s father claims he didn’t have any personal enmity with anyone but we have still detained some neighbours and other residents for questioning,” the officer added.

Last Saturday, the bodies of a seven-year-old boy and his five-year-old sister were found dumped near Pragati Maidan. Post-mortem reports revealed that the siblings were murdered hours after being abducted from their private school in East Delhi last Tuesday.
