Ten fire tenders rushed after fire breaks out at AIIMS Delhi, no casualties reported

Ten fire tenders were rushed to AIIMS (All India Institute Of Medical Sciences), New Delhi after a fire broke out at the Mother and Child Block of the hospital.

“The fire broke out on Thursday at 5:15 pm in the AHU Room of the service floor, between the second and the third floors,” said Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials. No casualties or injuries have been reported.

According to DFS, the blaze stemmed from a short-circuit in the indoor unit of the Air Conditioner installed in a laboratory on the service floor of Mother & Child Block of the hospital. Further investigation is underway, the DFS official said.

“The patients and the staff were safely evacuated from the affected area,” the DFS official said. The fire caused damage to certain sections, but ongoing effort is in place to restore and assess the affected facilities, sources in the DFS said.

A month earlier, a similar fire broke out at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in the Capital after a transformer exploded. The fire was successfully extinguished within 30-40 minutes of the incident, and no injuries were reported.

In a statement then, AIIMS said, “We would like to inform you that there was no fire at JPNATC, AIIMS Delhi. A fire incident occurred at an NDMC transformer located within the JPNATC complex, which was brought under control.”
