Four persons were pulled out and sent to a hospital.A major fire broke out at a four-storey godown in Naraina Industrial Area early on Tuesday morning, triggering a multi-agency response and leading to the collapse of two upper floors hours later, police said.
The blaze was first noticed around 2.15 am at Multan Paints and Electricals — a godown where paints and thinners were stored — located at the local community centre. Local residents alerted the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
A PCR call regarding the incident was received at Naraina police station at 2.45 am. Officers reached the spot to find the building engulfed in flames.
“The owner of the godown, Rohan, a resident of Rajouri Garden, had reportedly entered the building half-an-hour before the PCR call was made. Rohan is yet to be traced. The second and third floors of the building collapsed around 7.30 am,” said DCP (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar.
No casualties have been reported yet, but search and rescue efforts are underway.
According to DFS officials, the cooling down operations were carried out well into Tuesday night. Teams of the Delhi Police, District Disaster Management Authority, National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and DFS have been stationed at the location.
Teams are engaged in containment, debris removal and structural assessment as the mitigation operation continues.
Police said that a case under Section 287 (negligent conduct concerning fire or combustible materials) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will be registered. The cause of the fire remains unclear and will be determined after a detailed inspection by fire and forensic experts.
