Stabs himself after killing son; wife attempts suicide at home; couple in hospital
A seven-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead by his father, who then tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in Tikri Village,Gurgaon,on Sunday.
Police said the father,Pritam (28),had a fight with his wife,Anju (25),in the morning and suspect the murder and the attempted suicide could be a fallout of the fight.
According to police, earlier in the day Anju attempted to hang herself at her residence after the fight, but relatives saved her and rushed her to a local private hospital, police said.
Pritam had reportedly visited the hospital to check on Anju, and returned home around 10.30 am. He then told his son,Vaibhav, that they were going, police said.
According to police,Pritam took Vaibhav to a deserted spot in Faizalpur Village and shot him from close range. The boy died on the spot. The father then stabbed himself in the lower abdomen, after which he fell on the road bleeding, police said.
Pritam was noticed by passersby who rushed him to a hospital. A resident of Tikri Village, who was part of the crowd, recognised him and informed his family, a police officer said. Police found a knife and a country-made pistol from the spot.
We are investigating the matter. Both the husband and wife are in the hospital, and are said to be in a stable condition. They are not in a position to give a statement. Prima facie,it seems that the incident took place due to a fight, said Maheshwar Dayal,Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Sources said Pritam belongs to a family of landed farmers. The family had sold off a part of the land and rented out a few shops in Gurgaon.
