Six-year-old Aman was waiting anxiously for his father to return home on Monday night. His birthday is on Friday, and Constable Deepak Chauhan (36) had promised him they would plan his birthday party.
Aman waited with his mother,Manisha, until Tuesday morning. Chauhan never returned.
Hours before Chauhan would have finished duty and left for home,he was crushed under the wheels of a speeding Mercedes.
Chauhan, who married in 2002,had shifted to Shalimar Bagh after he was transferred to the Paschim Vihar police post.
The constable leaves behind his 27-year-old wife and two sons Aman is a student of Class II,his brother is in Class V.
Chauhans sister Anju told Newsline: It is very difficult to handle the family. We have still not informed Deepaks wife about the tragedy. We just told her that he met with an accident and is in the ICU. She fainted. His son has been insisting that we call Deepak and ask him to come home. He refuses to eat. He says he will eat once Deepak is back.
Chauhan was the breadwinner of the family, and relatives are worried about the future now.
Deepak wanted to give his children the best education. He had plans for their future. Who will take care of the family now? Who will earn? Where will the children go? Anju asked.
The family fears that since the accused,Gurdeep Singh,is well-to-do,he will get preferential treatment and will be let off.
We know that a constables life does not mean anything. The accused is going to get preferential treatment. But we will not let this happen, a relative said.
The family plans to meet the Chief Minister. Relatives said they would stage a protest if they are denied justice.
