The father of a 15-year -old girl, allegedly burnt to death last month after being gangraped a few months ago, was killed in a collision on the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday morning. While police claimed that the incident was an accident, the victim’s family alleged foul play.
On May 9, police had arrested four persons in connection with the rape and murder of the girl at Banwarivas village in Greater Noida.
While Sonu and Pradeep were arrested for allegedly raping the victim as well making a video, Lokender and his wife Archana were held for allegedly extorting money by threatening to release the video, and eventually setting her ablaze a day after she narrated the story to her parents. “All the four are still in prison and the case is underway,” a senior officer said.
On Thursday morning, relatives of the man killed in the accident said that he was on the way to a police station in Greater Noida to pick up his son. “There was a case of rape and he had been picked up for questioning. The son had called and said that the police were letting him go and so his father was going to pick him up. An unidentified vehicle hit the man while he was on his motorcycle. We believe that this was intentional because people wanted him to stop raising the issue of his daughter,” said a relative.
Senior police officers said that preliminary investigation suggested that the incident was an accident, but the allegations were being taken seriously.
