Fake documents, lookalike of landowner: Three men trying to sell Rs 95-cr plot arrested in Greater Noida

“We are investigating their involvement in similar crimes and also trying to arrest others involved in the racket,” the ACP said Forging documents, finding a lookalike of the property owner for impersonation, and then a legitimate customer — all to seal a land deal. This, when the real owner of the land has no idea that his property is being sold.
The racket came to light with the Central Noida Police on Tuesday arresting three men who allegedly committed such a fraud in a bid to sell around two hectares of land worth Rs 95 crore in Greater Noida’s Shahberi village.
The police identified the accused as Rakesh Kumar (45), Sirajuddin (70), and Mahendra Kumar (38).
“Rakesh is a resident of Haryana, while Sirajuddin is a resident of Meerut, and Mahendra hails from Bulandshahr in UP,” said Central Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Avasthy.
Avasthy said the land belonged to Mujahid Hussain, a resident of Ghaziabad’s Dasna and president of the Dasna Nagar Panchayat. “The owner got to know of their plan and filed a complaint with the Bisrakh police on February 28. We then began a probe,” he added.
The FIR was registered under sections 318 (4) (cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable documents), 336 (3) (forgery with intent to cheat), 340 (2) (forging electronic record) and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“We arrested them before they could sell the land,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Diksha Singh. She added that the group not only forged documents, such as Aadhaar card and PAN card to make fake deeds, but also looked for men who would resemble the real owner of the property.
“Mahendra would forge all necessary documents while Rakesh and other members of the gang would find the parcel of land that could be sold. In this case, they first found Sirajuddin, who resembled Mujahid Hussain… Sirajuddin would meet those interested in buying the land,” said Singh.
She added that Sirajuddin was promised Rs 40 crore for impersonating the real landowner. “We are investigating their involvement in similar crimes and also trying to arrest others involved in the racket,” she said.
