Factory producing fake cosmetic creams, toilet cleaners raided days after interstate drug racket busted in Ghaziabad

Four days after a major interstate racket allegedly involved in the manufacture, repackaging and nationwide sale of Schedule-H medicines following a raid at a factory in Ghaziabad was busted, another unit producing fake cosmetic creams, toilet cleaners was raided, police said.

Investigation revealed that the operators of the two factories are part of the same syndicate. The cosmetic creams were being supplied across North India, sources said.

Police found that the factory manufacturing the fake creams had been operating for the past six years, and were supplied by wholesalers in Sadar Bazaar. ā€œWe are now tracing who were receiving the supplies and if they were aware that those were fake,ā€ a police officer said.

Thousands of tubes of spurious ointment to treat skin infections, over 350 kg of fake medicinal creams and manufacturing equipment were recovered on Sunday. Two persons were arrested as the manufacturing unit was unearthed and counterfeit drugs and raw material worth over Rs 2.3 crore were seized, police had said.

The recovery also included around 1,200 tubes of spurious Betnovate-C ointment, over 2,700 tubes of spurious Clop-G ointment, more than 3,700 tubes of spurious Skin-Shine ointment, approximately 22,000 empty ready-to-be-filled fake Clop-G tubes, besides chemicals and machinery, said officers.

The Drugs Control department of the Delhi government had on Saturday collected 204 samples for analysis during an enforcement drive against illegal drug trade at Bhagirath Palace as the stores of 27 wholesale drug dealers, which distribute medicines across North India, were inspected.

During the drive, which the department said was part of a crackdown on the illegal drug trade in the Capital, a store was also sealed for not possessing the required licences in violation of the Medical Devices Rules, according to officials. Sources said drugs, including cough and cold medicines, Telmisartan, Cetirizine, Paracetamol, Metformin, were seized.
