Eye on polls,Delhi BJP says will roll back tax on property

With Assembly elections round the corner and Delhi’s traders feeling the heat of increased taxes on their commercial properties

With Assembly elections round the corner and Delhi’s traders feeling the heat of increased taxes on their commercial properties, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit chief on Monday ordered the three corporations to find a way to roll back these taxes. The party also demanded protection for properties built till June 30,2013,from sealing and demolition.

Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel announced that the three corporations would not let Delhi’s residents suffer due to increased commercial taxes.

However, officials at the corporations said the tax could not be rolled back once the budget was approved. “The schedule of taxes has already been passed for this year and we cannot roll it back. All we can do is give a discount or rebate for this year,” an official said.

Mayor Savita Chaudhary said a proposal had been passed in the House that Delhi government and the Centre should protect and regularise all illegal construction till 30th June,2013,in regularised unauthorised colonies under the South Municipal Corporation.

Earlier the Centre had provided similar relaxation for properties built before 2007,under Master Plan -2021.
