EWS quota admissions: Govt seeks details from 50 schools in Gurgaon
According to Sanjeev Mann all schools and colleges, which received land through change of land use, will be sent notices.
The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) on Monday sent notices to more than 200 schools and colleges in Gurgaon, seeking the details of all the students admitted under the economically weaker sections (EWS) and below poverty line (BPL) scheme.
According to Sanjeev Mann, district town planner (enforcement), all schools and colleges, who received land through change of land use will be sent notices. The process has already begun and will be done in three phases depending on when the school or college was given permission. The institutes have been asked to respond within one week, after which the report would be send to DTCP for further action, he added.
As per the Right to Education Act 2010, every private unaided school, excluding minority institutions, has to reserve 25 per cent seats for students from economically weaker sections and the cost for the same is to be shared between the state and the Centre.
Haryana, however, imposes reservation of 10 per cent seats over and above the RTE rules, as per Section 134A of Haryana State Education Rules (HSER). Under RTE, schools reserve seats for EWS children in Class I or previous classes whereas the state rules require reservation of 10 per cent seats in all classes, from first to twelfth. Under RTE, the Centre and state share cost burden of 68 per cent and 32 per cent respectively whereas HSER passes entire responsibility on the schools.
“We have received a number of complaints against the schools and discrepancies have been reported alleging that institutes were not following the guidelines of the government. The notices have been sent to all the educational institutes who have received land benefits,” a senior official said.
