The owner of the building, in which Shweta Singh ran her day-care centre, described her as an enterprising woman. Shweta (36), who was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband Rajneesh Singh (44) on Sunday, usually spent her weekdays with around 15 kids at the day-care centre located on the second floor of the two-storey building in DLF Phase-IV.
“Two months ago, she came to us, looking for a bigger space for her day-care centre, which she used to run from her house, located barely 500m away, then,” the owner of the building said, without wishing to be named.
“Shweta found the space suitable because the first floor of the building already had a school for small children,” he said.
“I only met her four or five times. She mostly interacted with my wife or the school principal.”
According to him, it was only on Monday morning when he read the news about her death that he came to know Shweta had shifted to Sector-48. “I don’t know why they shifted. We never asked. It was a personal matter,” he said.
Dinesh, the caretaker of the building, who sleeps inside it every night, is unsure of what to say when asked about Shweta. “I did not know her very well but she was a very pleasant woman,” he said. “She used to come with her little son. The day-care centre would be open from 9 in the morning to 7 in the evening, Monday through Friday. Sometimes, madam would come on Saturdays, too, to clean the room,” he said. “The room has been locked for now.”
