221 candidates filed nomination; 160 were okayed; 31 more than in 2004; 72 independents in fray

VIOLATION AND ACTION
Seized: 1 pistol,1 country-made revolver,20 knives,one SAF and 110 live rounds; 227 licensed arms deposited,impounded or cancelled

Removed: 7,588 hoardings,19,960 banners,25,946 posters and 1,184 wall writings; 348 cases registered; 189 non-bailable warrants executed; 265 arrested
