An 84-year-old woman fought off robbers who entered her Kirti Nagar home in West Delhi and also managed to get three of them arrested,police said on Thursday.
According to police,the three men went to Kaushalya Devi’s house thinking they would easily overpower the elderly woman and then rob the house.
Akhtar Hussain,Sujit Chatterji and Arun Singh were tipped-off by an accomplice that Kaushalya was alone at home,police said.
The three went to Kaushalya’s home in Mansarovar Garden posing as employees of North Delhi Power Limited on Tuesday afternoon. She let them in thinking they had come to read the meter,police said.
Once inside,Hussain held Kaushalya and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. Meanwhile,Chatterji and Singh began ransacking the house,police said.
According to police,Kaushalya managed to push Hussain and ran out of the house calling for help. Neighbours rushed to help and caught the three robbers.
During questioning,Hussain told police that he had been arrested in robbery and murder cases earlier as well.
In 2004,Hussain met one Dharmender. Police said it was Dharmender who informed Hussain about Kaushalya being alone at home. Dharmender,too,has been arrested.
Kaushalya told police her son Rajendra Mohan Sharma and daughter-in-law Sunita Sharma were at their office when the men attacked her.
“The senior citizen has been rewarded for her resilience,” Devendra Arya,Additional DCP (West),said.
