The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Friday approved a proposal of the Ministry of Urban Development for re-development of Kidwai Nagar (East) in New Delhi for construction of residential accommodation for government employees.

An official release stated the project will be implemented in five years via the public-private partnership (PPP) mode without any budgetary support,by the National Buildings Construction Corporation,a Government of India undertaking.

The release stated that 4,747 dwelling units will be constructed in place of the existing 2,331 houses.

There is an acute shortage of government housing, especially in the National Capital Region which has created a long list of officials waiting for eligible housing.
