With a few days left for Delhi University Students’ Union elections,the two leading parties — Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and National Students’ Union of India — began a mud-slinging campaign.
A candidate tried to forcefully enter Shaheed Bhagat Singh College on Saturday. Dr P K Khurana,acting principal of the college,said,“A candidate and some of his supporters tried to enter the college forcefully. Police had to called to control the situation.”
NSUI national president Rohit Chaudhary blamed the ABVP for the incident. “Our candidates had gone to the college in the morning. ABVP activists tried to stop us from entering college. Such an incident had also occurred at Hansraj College,” he said.
ABVP spokesperson Rohit Chahal said,“NSUI candidates had gone to the college and were stopped by another NSUI member who was not selected as a candidate.”
Chief Election Commissioner C S Dubey said,“We came to know that some candidates were trying to enter the college. Although a written complaint has not been given to us till now,we will get footage of the incident from college and take action accordingly.”
