(File)A Teenager was stabbed and strangled to death allegedly by her classmate at Sanjay Van, in Delhi’s Mehrauli area on Sunday, police said. The accused, a BCom student, has been arrested. The two were students at the Delhi University’s School of Open Learning.
A police officer said the two were close. The accused, however, suspected that the victim was talking to another boy and confronted her a few days ago.
On June 1, the accused called the victim to Sanjay Van in the morning before she went to her college. “The victim left her house in the morning to meet the accused. Around noon, the victim told her mother that she would return shortly. When she did not return, her mother received a call from the father of the accused, saying that his son had been attacked with a knife in Sanjay Van and was hospitalised,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan.
The teenager’s mother reached Mehrauli police station, alleging her daughter had been abducted by the accused. CCTV cameras around Sanjay Van were analysed, and the accused was arrested by the police on Monday.
During questioning, police said the accused claimed that it was the teenager who first attacked him with a knife, injuring him. “While defending himself, things got heated between the two. The teenager was stabbed thrice,” a police officer said. “During questioning, he disclosed that he called the victim (deceased) on the pretext of meeting her in Sanjay Van… After killing her, he tried to burn the body. During the altercation, the accused sustained minor injuries. After that, he fled and went to a hospital for treatment,” DCP Chauhan said.
